Questions people ask

Does everyone need an account or the app?

No. You send one link. Everyone opens it in their browser and taps their name, and their phone remembers them. There's nothing to download and no password. If you want, a 4-digit PIN locks your name so nobody else can pick it.

How do people actually pay each other?

GroupTab never touches the money. It works out the fewest payments that settle everyone up, and each person adds their Venmo or Cash App once. When you owe someone, one tap opens the app with the amount already filled in. Paid in cash or Zelle instead? Mark it paid.

How do we know who has really paid?

Both sides confirm. The person paying taps “I sent it,” and the person getting paid taps “Confirm receipt.” Until then it shows as waiting, so there's no “I swear I sent it.”

Can the bride or the birthday person not pay?

Yes. Whoever started the tab marks them as covered, and their share of split costs is spread across everyone else. They're still paid back for anything they buy.

Can we collect for the Airbnb before the trip?

Yes. Whoever paid for it taps “Ask everyone for their share now,” and each person sees exactly what they owe for it, with a button to pay.

Is it free, and how long are tabs kept?

It's free, with no ads and no sign-up. A tab is erased 90 days after its last change, and the person who started it can delete it any time.

Does it work in other currencies?

Each tab uses one currency, and 19 are supported. Venmo and Cash App only send US dollars, so for other currencies the app shows each person's handle to copy instead of filling in an amount.
