How to split an Airbnb by nights stayed

Splitting a rental evenly feels unfair when one person arrives a day late and another leaves early. Splitting by nights fixes that: each person pays for the nights they actually stay.

Add each person and their nights below. The shares are exact and always add up to the total.

  • Nights for You
    3
  • Nights for Person 2
    3
  • Nights for Person 3
    1

Now collect it: one link, see who's paid, both sides confirm.

In the tab, you can also

  • Add every other expense as it happens: dinners, drinks, rides.
  • Split each one evenly, by exact amounts, or leave people out.
  • Rename it, add people, or change anything later.

How the math works

Add up everyone's nights. Each person pays their nights divided by the total nights, times the price. For example, three people staying 3, 3 and 1 nights share 7 person-nights, so the one-night guest pays one seventh.

Leftover cents go one each to the first people on the list who stayed at least a night, so the shares match the total exactly.

When an even split is still better

If the house costs the same whether one person stays or ten, some groups prefer to split evenly and let the late arrival chip in for groceries instead. Agree on the method before anyone books, then stick to it.

Put it on the tab with exact amounts

In GroupTab, an expense can be split by exact amounts per person. Turn the calculator's result into a tab and the rental is added with each person's exact share, ready to collect.

GroupTab keeps everyone's Venmo and Cash App in the tab, so paying is one tap with the amount already filled in, and both sides confirm when it arrives.

Questions

Is splitting by nights fair?

It's a fair method when stays differ. If the price doesn't change with the number of guests, an even split is also reasonable. Agree before booking.

What about cleaning and service fees?

Include them in the total. They're part of the cost of the stay, so they split the same way.

Can I change the split later?

Yes. In a tab, edit the expense and adjust the amounts. Everyone sees the change and the history of who changed what.
